Student an eyewitness was among the many people attracted to the scene of a tragic fire that engulfed much of the multi-block residential estate in the region's Tai Po area.
No fewer than 36 residents have lost their lives in Wednesday's catastrophic inferno to date, with hundreds still missing, suggesting that this count will probably increase.
"We're facing a tragedy," Thomas stated about the incident, noting that he had observed a deceased person being transported from the location.

An local woman explained that her acquaintances live inside the complex and she was staying to hear if they were able to evacuate.

During interviews about their sentiments regarding the fire, inhabitants voiced that "the government is unprepared" and that they were "immensely heartbroken".
"We hope not to experience any further casualties," remarked an individual.
An elderly lady who dwells in an apartment in the affected buildings explained she was not at home when the blaze ignited but that she is concerned about her apartment because it is not insured.
"I'm very troubled that I have no residence to return to at present," she added.
